Beautiful Feeling (Original Mix) up, two new WIPs, other news.

Posted by Karco - February 23rd, 2009

2-27-09 A quick update:

Leaving tomorrow for my vacation, I won't be online at all that day but during the week I'm away there's a chance I may find some internet where I'm going. Don't count on it though. ;D Once I'm back I'll be free for another week before school starts again so some significant production work could happen. We'll see.

As a little treat while I'm gone I uploaded an experiment I finished tonight - it's that melodic ambient track I was talking about farther down in this news post, now named Sleep. Download it here, enjoy and leave a comment if you want to! It was more an experiment than anything really, the only two aspects I'm really proud of are the snare and the pad's chord progression.

I got my first vocals from Liralei just now and hope to work with those a little bit while I'm gone as well, as this time I will for sure have my producing computer with me.

That's all, I'll be back in a week!

--

Up until last night my hands have been tied with a big school commitment, so any plans I've made music-wise have been on hold for a while - now, though, production and modding can resume. For now, I'll be putting a small post here about music until I post my Picks of February.

After sending it to Pulstate to send to a few labels, Beautiful Feeling unfortunately failed to get signed - though the feedback I received implied to me that I was getting quite close. I've put a 320 up for free download at Mediafire, so enjoy, and offer criticism in a comment if you feel inclined to!

I've started two new WIPs:

1) A minimal-style track, which I set in 7/4 time just for kicks. I'm still working on the mix, but once that's covered I'll start arranging it.
2) A new ambient piece, which is very melodic and very emotional. If you downloaded the PreviewSet, I took some compositional ideas from the first preview, Forever.

I've heard back from Liralei about the Time for Morning remix and, now that I've got time, I hope to send a few files over and/or communicate with her in the very near future.

No new news on the rest of my WIPs, like I said in the last post, if it's not mentioned here, I probably haven't worked much on it lately.

It's Monday and I'm continuing this update: I seem to have a lot less time daily than I thought I would, so the best I can hope for in terms of time for production are the weekends and a two-week vacation coming up.

I won't be at home for the Picks of February but hopefully there will be internet wherever I'm going! We'll have to see.

Sorry for the late reply, but I just wanted to let you know that Beautiful Feeling is awesome! The percussion sounds wonderful! The bass sounds kind of strange by itself, but there's nothing wrong with it. I'm definitely picking up that you are great with pads. Both in this original piece and your "Instrumental #4" remix, the pads have sounded very uplifting and high-flying... the piano here is very lofty and nice. Haha... I guess there's a good reason this track is called "Beautiful Feeling!"

Anyway, superb job! I'm surprised you didn't get signed, but hey, there's always next time!

Glad you liked it!

The labels generally said I wasn't professional-sounding enough so that'll be something I have to work on. Otherwise they liked the style. :)

Hm. Not professional-sounding enough? I'm trying to listen for what they might not have gone for. Perhaps they want more complexity-- it's difficult to convey a lot of professionalism through decently minimal tracks especially when you're starting off and under label scrutiny. I had to relisten to it a few times to get it in my head-- beautifully done, but not one-shot memorable. First tracks have to really be attention-snagging, I'd guess.

To my ears, there are one or two synths that may sound a bit amateur, but only marginally; and at the same time they do so much for the style that I don't see how you could make it any different. Plus, I've heard a couple of songs that have similar stuff, so -shrug- maybe they're looking for something really different.

Either way, good luck, and now the labels know your name, which is always a good thing. As for busy-ness, I'm going to be tied up as well save for weekends and half of my one-week break beginning March 13, so best wishes to you with your work, too. I'm still free to record at random spots of free time, though, and have been doing so.

That all sounds about right to me. The big professional tracks out there not only have character, but defining moments as well to make them memorable - I may have been able to find a character but personally I don't feel there was any one moment that defined the track as a whole.

That, and I've never been to any kind of Trance club or show, so I'm quite weak when considering things from that angle. :(

Your one-week break is perfect, as I'll be back home by then! We'll have all of that half week to work through it and make a fair amount of progress. Though I'm actually chatting with you right now, so... :D

Were you talking about this?

In your MSN message?

Nope, but problem's solved now!

Hey Karco, I'm a little late, but I hope you have a good holiday! =]

P.S: Bet you didn't expect a comment from me! =]

Thanks! And I certainly didn't. :O

whoa I just listened to sleep, it's amazing :0

The kick and snare are so tight, and the bass is so smooth a realistic, where did you get that bass from?? I'm inspired :)

I wasn't expecting that response. :D

Unsurprisingly, the bass was a modified Nexus preset. Not sure if that's going to impress or disappoint but it's the answer. D:

"'I'm on vacation, and the internet here is dead slow and expensive so I won't be doing anything on NG until I get back on the 7th or 8th."

Mmmmk

Thanks again. :)

why are you always on vacation corKa?

Oh, I wish I was always on vacation... D:

Well not really. Though perhaps it would be more appropriate to say, "why are you always on vacation or busy with school caKor?"

Where did you go on vacation? =] I haven't had a holiday in agessssss ='[

Cruise around the Caribbean. Good stuff. :)

i'm from the carribean mon

Where from? :O

hey man! are you still doing the best of the month stuff??? cause I got some really good tracks that might interest you ;D

Here are some names and y I think are so good:

1° Savanna by ZooSafari (Trance) well...few words to say about this one, this really owns February haha, for me best trance track of the month!

2° Lethal Industry (rmx) by MICHhimself (Trance) MAN!!! If you havent heard this one, you should! All the big fans of trance music should, its one of the best remixes of one of the best tunes ever created and in my opinion, its waaaay better than the original.

3° Moonson by Nal1200 (Dance) although this one belongs in dance, I think its got loads of cool tranceish elements and its mastering is simply perfect! I think this one really deserves some recognition ;)

But I leave that to yourself buddy! I hope this was helpful to you, srsly if you have some time, listen to this tracks, they wont let ya down ;D

See, THIS is what happens when you comment on an old news post. I miss it for two months. >:(

Thanks for the thoughts, but I'm skipping March and April altogether, I figured it would be too much work.
