Karco's Best of October!

Posted by Karco - November 5th, 2008

Hello!

As some of you know, one reason I decided to stop submitting to the Audio Portal was because of so-so or downright bad tracks making Weekly Best when there were far more deserving submissions out there. So at the beginning of every month I'm going to make a front-paged post with what I found to be the best submissions of the previous month, as an effort to promote said tracks!

My genres of expertise being Trance-related EDM, expect to find mostly Trance tracks month by month, and occasionally tracks out of other genres.

No bias is involved in the selection or ordering of these tracks. It's impossible for me to listen to every Electronic track submitted in October, so there's also always the chance I missed something more deserving - if I have, there's no changing the list, but I can place you on an "Also Listen To" list, or you can send me a PM in advance to see if your newest track is a contender for the next Best of the Month.

All of that being said, read on, and don't forget to support these talented artists by reviewing, adding them and/or their track to your Favorites list, and spreading the word! :)

Best of October: NYD - Coral (Original Mix) by Neyed [House]
This is Immune's first track on his new account, and it's quite a strong track in many aspects. Don't get the wrong idea from the genre or the introduction, as it develops into quite the catchy track. Bravo - well done! :D

2nd of October: [DjBjra] - Caverns of Time by Bjra [Video Game]
Bjra's been making music for years now and in that time has become quite the accomplished artist, both musically and technically! I've watched him develop over the past several months from generic overcompressed tracks, to this, which blew me away with its progression and energy - he's nearing mastery of composition and track structure, and this submission is the perfect example! Sound choice is still a weak point for him (as he probably knew I would say ;D) but he's improved there as well. Congratulations on Weekly Best and my Monthly Best, Bjra!

3rd of October: Airless Gravity (OM) by Neodrummer [Trance]
While he does repeatedly reuse the same drum sounds, Neodrummer's style is one of the more unique Trance styles on Newgrounds. Airless Gravity is the perfect example, with fresh composition making this a deserving choice for 3rd of October. Look forward to his newer submissions, as he only plans on getting better!

4th of October: Believe Again (Original Mix) by JohnnyFrizz [Trance]
A relative newcomer to my personal list of accomplished Trance artists, JohnnyFrizz has proven himself a capable producer with this track! He has some improving to do but already has made a track quite worthy of Monthly 4th. Watch this guy in the months to come, there's lots of potential here!

Good idea, we should do this with flash movies too.

I'm not a big Flash person, but if you know any good Flash critics, they'd probably know what's best. :D

Yay!

:D!

Hello. In response to your 'authors response', let's bring some debate to newgrounds :)

Maybe I didn't choose the right way (a song review) to say what I said. I thought of posting that in your news post, but I finally posted it in a song review because in that way, I thought I could show better what I was trying to demonstrate.

I was trying to demonstrate that there are many ways to express opinions & points of view. The way that you reviewed Candy Dance, wasn't correct. And my intention was to show you how bad an artist can feel when reading a review with hard critics & irony. So I chose Abyss, what I think is the worst of your latest songs, to review in the same style you reviewed Candy Dance.

You can say that my review was abussive. Yes, it's exactly as abussive as your review of Candy Dance was. You only reviewed it because you thought that song was not good enough to be at the week top, but you didn't give her any solutions to improve the song. You only complained. Your review was sounding as if you were Tiësto or Paul Van Dyk, and you were telling a student off. It seemed to be writen with envy and lack if humility (correct me If I'm wrong. Sorry, but you don't have Tiësto or Paul Van Dyk's level, maybe one day yes, but not right now. I only wanted to show you that, when I reviewed Abyss.

People can always express their opinions, of course, and there are 2 different ways on doing that: a rude way (the way you reviewed Candy Dance, and the way I reviewed Abyss) and an elegant and respectful way (the way I'm using, or at least trying to use right now)

I'm not an angry fan trying to get you back, as you suggested. I picked up your Candy Dance review as example because it illustrates what I'm saying (I also read other hard reviews that you have made).

I don't want to have any problems with you, I just wanted to point out that. You can take this seriously or not, it's your choice. If you want, we can talk & discuss about this, about my songs, about yours, about Tiësto or whatever, not problem, I'll be pleased. You can also think that I'm a stupid moron, & not even respond this comment. Well that's another option too! XD

It's you choice again :)

Ciao!

Don't worry, I respond to every comment I get.

Now that I read my review again, I see where you're coming from with how harsh it was. :O I didn't review it because I didn't think it was good enough for Weekly Best, I reviewed it because it made Weekly Best in the first place, and because it was SO GENERIC. Perhaps I was being harsh, but nearly every aspect of her track had been done before, and it certainly wasn't creative or new in any way. I do agree now I could have elaborated some more, but seeing ANOTHER generic track that didn't stand out at all make Weekly Best frustrated me.

I wasn't writing with envy or lack of humility (or at least I don't think I was), mostly angrily. Why would I be envious of someone having made generic music, or having won over an audience who anyone can please?

Personally I don't like Tiesto or Paul van Dyk (if you said Above & Beyond or Daniel Kandi now... :P) but I see your point. I do consider myself accomplished (to an extent), and once again, my opinion is taken seriously by the best of artists here. But it's understandable for you to ask me to keep my ego in check, I know quite a few users here who I would like to tell the same thing. ;D

Your review didn't bring the point across at all - like I said, it was laughable. Now that you've left this comment I can see you're a much more respectable person. :) The debate can end here, I've gotten enough grief about that review. If you'd like to chat more, feel free to AIM me, my AIM is on this page.

Glad you've made yourself clear, thanks for that.

Good idea you have there. Hope you keep it up, because you're right, a lot of the stuff that makes it into the top 5 is shite.

Thanks! :D I plan to update regularly on each midnight of the first Wednesday of every month (at the same time Weekly Best is selected).

So.. What do i have to do to get up there? :o

Make good music. ;D

Seems pretty straight forward to me :/.

That's the idea. ;D

Also, spam deleted.

but now the number 1 is a stolen song :0
