Karco's News

--Download--

A bit of a story behind this track. The most unusual thing is that I made it entirely over last weekend originally for a school project (started Friday the 5th at 6:24 PM, finished Sunday the 7th at 3:15 PM), and what's more, in a deep house-ish style, completely new to me. I intended to add my own singing, but I was sick the night I had to finish it, and couldn't record anything I was happy with, so I left the track as it was and finished the schol project by other means. Meanwhile I had a finished track and nothing to do with it, so I thought I would touch it up and add a melody to replace the intended lyrics. I still couldn't come up with anything I liked, so I thought I'd upload it and share it as is. :) Here's Glow!

If you wish to review, just leave your review here as a comment. Informal comments are also appreciated. :)

--

As for the next several weeks, I doubt I'm going to be producing any new tracks before I leave on vacation this coming Friday (the 19th). However, I will be bringing my producing computer with me, and will be able to produce - so perhaps by the time I come back I'll have made decent progress on a new track or two. :D I'm also getting some new sounds for the holidays/my birthday, so that should also help. Last, the Unleashed CD - I plan to release it in Q1 2009 when I have time, I'll make an announcement when new progress is being made. :D

New Track! Glow (Original Mix)

Posted by Karco - December 3rd, 2008

Well, here I am again, with more promotion to give out! The first new thing you may notice this time around is that I renamed this series of posts from Karco's Best of the Month to Karco's Picks of the Month - for many reasons, I can't say for everyone which tracks are the best, the entire point of this is to promote the best tracks of the month further, whether they made it in NG's system or not. :) This way I also don't have to worry about justifying the fact that I'm only picking Trance-related genres, as those are my forte.

Special thanks to Nav for helping me find a few of these tracks! Let's begin:

1st of November: Final Thougts (Original Mix) by BrokenCrossfader [House]
First pick of November is a strong track by a fairly unknown artist: at this time, it has a grand total of TWO reviews and 123 listens - not much at all for someone of this level. This is not only a prime example of an underdog but a skilled artist as well! This is a fresh track the likes of which haven't been known on Newgrounds before, so let's change that! Spread the word and make sure this guy gets some well-deserved attention. :)

2nd of November: Nightmare Eater--_--Goa Trance by ZENON [Trance]
While personally I'm not a big fan of Goa Trance, I can tell when a lot of effort goes into a track - this is one of those cases. A polished production all around, ZENON is a solid artist and Nightmare Eater doesn't disappoint!

3rd of November: Fuaraya by Pulstate [Trance]
Pulstate's giving us a rare freebie with this track, let's all be thankful (and what do you know? Thanksgiving was not too long ago :P)! As a producer at the professional level he naturally blows all of the other Trance artists away - sadly, several reused sounds and what sounds to me like a lack of effort - not quite 100% - dropped it a few places. Considering that he almost got it signed, though, it's still quite a strong track and worthy of its place as 3rd of November.

4th of November: Nav - Space Sequence (Remix) by Nav [Trance] I helped Nav a lot with this track, as you can read by the description (you'd only have to read the beginning to tell, though you can read it all if you choose!), and massive effort went into it throughout production! It ended up as a track that, while not quite as polished as it could have been, was quite melodically entertaining and structurally satisfying. Still, it was a significant jump for Nav, big enough that he made it up here. :)

Karco's Picks of November!

Posted by Karco - November 30th, 2008

This is mostly a filler post until I put up the Best of November on Tuesday. :P

I have one WIP in the works right now, a project for school. My standards for this one will be significantly lower so I can get it done by the deadline and because nobody will know better, but I may be able to come back to it and rework it after the deadline if I think it's worth it. :) No further details currently.

I hardly have time to work on anything else, my life is getting busy to the point I'm drowning in work. D: So don't expect to see me as active on NG in the near future.

That's it for now. Not much to respond to but feel free to leave a comment anyway. :P

If you don't feel like leaving a review, you can always leave a comment on this post. :)

Enjoy!

New Track: Instrumental #4 (Karco See The Light Remix)

Posted by Karco - November 15th, 2008

11-19-08: Just a quick update, there's a very small chance that, due to circumstances beyond my control, I won't be able to submit the Instrumental #4 remix on Friday like I've promised. If you don't see it appear on Friday, you all can expect it on Saturday for sure. ;)

--

Finally! :D Download it here, and read on for descrptions and times of each preview. Keep in mind that these are all outdated, or that it's not possible to continue on them - except for the Instrumental #4 remix, which is a clip of the finished version.

If you want to, leave a comment telling me what you think! I'd appreciate it. :)

1. Forever: 0:00 - 1:03
Me freestyling on a pad with, of all things, my computer's keyboard. :D This is the first and only render, as I can't access the FLP anymore.

2. Slide: 1:03 - 2:07
This too has become a broken FLP, but it's a house/acid-ish project I started for a change, and never finished. Funny thing, it matches keys pretty well with Forever and Mech. I looped it twice, as the original render was pretty short.

3. Mech: 2:07 - 3:22
This is another track I can't continue anymore, so all I've got left is this render from June! Like with Slide, I looped it once at the end just to extend it a little bit.

4. UntitledMelodic: 3:22 - 5:08
An original Trance track that never really went anywhere past what you hear here. There are some nice concepts, I just don't know where to take them. :(

5. Instrumental #4 (Karco's See The Light Remix): 5:08 - 6:48
I've pulled out a bit of the second break, and the entire first peak, for this preview. For many of you, this is the first time you've heard the Instrumental #4 Remix - so enjoy! The full track is going up this Friday, the 21st.

New Track: PreviewSet

______News______
=================

11-11-08: The Instrumental #4 remix is FINISHED, and is going on NG on the 21st! It will be my final submission here.

I also plan on starting an original vocal Trance track with NG's new talented vocalist Liralei in the near future, we'll see where that goes.

Last, the clip set is coming soon, it will include these tracks:
1) Forever - basically me freestyling, using my keyboard, on a pad. I took an old pad concept from Beginnings and improvised from there. No plans on continuing work currently.
2) Slide - an electro-housish track that I made a few months ago. Thanks to Nexus1 not working, I can't work on it anymore. :(
3) Mech - that side project that stayed at 20% forever and never went anywhere! ;D You'll finally get to hear it.
4) UntitledMelodic - the WIP that I dropped due to lack of interest. :( I might pick it up again if I feel like it.
5) Instrumental #4 (Karco's See The Light Remix) - I'll end with a piece of the peak! :D Hopefully I'll have the preview set submitted ASAP, just so I can tease you all with this for the longest possible amount of time.

It will not be going on Newgrounds, instead I'll be uploading to a filesharing site for listening and downloading, probably speedyshare.com.

______WIPs______
=================

Instrumental #4 (Karco's See The Light Remix)
- Progress: 100% Done
- Length: 7:55
- Submission Date: Friday, November 21st.
- Info: My first piano Trance song and a remix of Reasoner's great track! This could potentially blow you all away even more than the PoE remix, but we'll see.
- Demo: The preview set will include a demo! Hopefully I'll be able to get that up soon.

--

Air Release (Karco Tech Remix)
- Progress: 5% Done
- Length: N/A
- Submission Date: N/A
- Info: This song is so catchy, I decided I HAD to remix it. So, I will. :D I'm going to go for something really minimal and progressive - think Signalrunners, but with an edgier, slightly rougher feel. I'm not sure if I want to continue on this one until I get VEE or VEH 1 or 2, which I do plan on getting in the near future.
- Demo: N/A

Tracklist

Bold songs are finished.
Comments on each track are below the track in italics.

1. Unleashed (Radio Edit)
2. Unleashed (_______'s Club Mix)
- Since I can't access the project file anymore, I need someone (with FL8 Producer Edition, Nexus1, Nexus1's Dance Vol. 1 Expansion, VEC2, and VEC1) to make the club mix for me. Anyone up to it?
3. Unleashed (xKore Remix)
- The one that WAS on Newgrounds, but was removed. Awesome.
4. Unleashed (xKore Tech Remix)
- I'm using both, because they're both awesome. :P Find a one-minute preview here.
5. Unleashed (FlamingFirebolt's Chiptune Remake)
- This one's ALMOST finished, FlamingFirebolt just needs to fix a few problems.
6. Unleashed (Chilled Milkmix)
- Chilled Milk. XD This will be a Trance remix, to contrast with the many fast versions on the Single.
7. Unleashed (Pyroific Remix)
- No news on this one. I think it's about finished. :P
8. Unleashed (Mataro Remix)
- The production's pretty much finished. Due to so-so mixing, it might not get on the CD depending on what Nav can do in the Master.

--

Info

- Release Date: Q1 2009
- Demo: If you want to hear the original version, scroll up and click on it. ;)
- Profits: I'll be trying to break even this time around and get $0 profit, so I don't have to worry about getting money to everyone, who gets how much of the profit, etc. I'm considering selling the CD for a profit, but some of the remixers use their sounds/sequencers illegally, and since this is only my first single, it might not be worth it. Thoughts?
- How to Get: I'll have people pre-order it starting a month in advance until a week in advance, and I'll start delivering the CDs on the release date - I won't take orders after the release date though, as I'm trying to break even with profits and orders after release would mess it up. I'm not sure if I'll take orders over the internet from people I don't know in real life, I'll have to see about that. The release date is as much as 4 months away if necessary, so I've got plenty of time to figure it all out.
- Mastering by Nav

News

Due to real-life circumstances, I've delayed release from the tentative date of December 15th to sometime in Q1 2009. This puts a lot less pressure on the artists to make their songs (in turn, allowing for a higher-quality product), and gives Nav more time for the master. :D Don't get too lax, though, I want to get this out soon!

Remixers:
1) Try to get your tracks done before the end of 2008, which is not only a good amount of time to get everything together, but also a while in advance from the current release date - this gives Nav time for the master, and anyway I prefer to have everything together a while in advance just to be safe, in case I forget anything. ;)
2) Do NOT upload any of your remixes to Newgrounds or anywhere on the internet. Also, don't share them with more than one or two other people for criticism. We need to be careful that no tracks get leaked - the Radio Edit and xKore's first remix are already publicly available anyway (though xKore removed his later). ;)
3) Make sure you can access and make renders from your FLP later! Nav will need extra-high quality versions for the master, so save backups. ;)
4) Make high-quality versions of your tracks as soon as they're finished, in case you lose the FLP. Ask me or Nav for details.

If I've missed something or someone, let me know.

I made this section so people could see ideas that I've got for future songs, that I haven't started yet - this way they could suggest for me which songs to work on first. Check back here now and then, I add ideas as soon as I come up with them. ;) If you see an idea here that you like, let me know!

- No ideas for WIPs currently. I'll make an update when I add some!

Hello!

As some of you know, one reason I decided to stop submitting to the Audio Portal was because of so-so or downright bad tracks making Weekly Best when there were far more deserving submissions out there. So at the beginning of every month I'm going to make a front-paged post with what I found to be the best submissions of the previous month, as an effort to promote said tracks!

My genres of expertise being Trance-related EDM, expect to find mostly Trance tracks month by month, and occasionally tracks out of other genres.

No bias is involved in the selection or ordering of these tracks. It's impossible for me to listen to every Electronic track submitted in October, so there's also always the chance I missed something more deserving - if I have, there's no changing the list, but I can place you on an "Also Listen To" list, or you can send me a PM in advance to see if your newest track is a contender for the next Best of the Month.

All of that being said, read on, and don't forget to support these talented artists by reviewing, adding them and/or their track to your Favorites list, and spreading the word! :)

Best of October: NYD - Coral (Original Mix) by Neyed [House]
This is Immune's first track on his new account, and it's quite a strong track in many aspects. Don't get the wrong idea from the genre or the introduction, as it develops into quite the catchy track. Bravo - well done! :D

2nd of October: [DjBjra] - Caverns of Time by Bjra [Video Game]
Bjra's been making music for years now and in that time has become quite the accomplished artist, both musically and technically! I've watched him develop over the past several months from generic overcompressed tracks, to this, which blew me away with its progression and energy - he's nearing mastery of composition and track structure, and this submission is the perfect example! Sound choice is still a weak point for him (as he probably knew I would say ;D) but he's improved there as well. Congratulations on Weekly Best and my Monthly Best, Bjra!

3rd of October: Airless Gravity (OM) by Neodrummer [Trance]
While he does repeatedly reuse the same drum sounds, Neodrummer's style is one of the more unique Trance styles on Newgrounds. Airless Gravity is the perfect example, with fresh composition making this a deserving choice for 3rd of October. Look forward to his newer submissions, as he only plans on getting better!

4th of October: Believe Again (Original Mix) by JohnnyFrizz [Trance]
A relative newcomer to my personal list of accomplished Trance artists, JohnnyFrizz has proven himself a capable producer with this track! He has some improving to do but already has made a track quite worthy of Monthly 4th. Watch this guy in the months to come, there's lots of potential here!

10-28-08: In having gone so long without working on the Instrumental #4 remix, I've had quite a good time working on it these past few days!

Also, the clip set is coming soon, it will include these tracks:
1) Forever - basically me freestyling, using my keyboard, on a pad. I took an old pad concept from Beginnings and improvised from there. No plans on continuing work unless someone wants to add a piano solo on top? ;D

10-27-08: The debate seems to be slowing down, so I'm going to make a new news post on top of this one in the near future sometime. I've taken a few steps back on the Instrumental #4 remix, I plan to make it TONS better. ;D The project file messed itself up somehow, but in the process of fixing it I got a few good ideas.

--

10-14-08: You'll notice that with the new personalizing feature, I moved my favorite tracks to the top of my page. I plan to showcase my current favorites, hopefully I can set up a system that people will come by to see month by month. :P

--

Yeah guys, me too. :(

I'll still be just as present as I was before, and I'll even post links to finished tracks uploaded to other websites. I'm simply no longer submitting to the Audio Portal.

The reason why I'm leaving is simply that the exposure offered here (be it through Weekly Best, All-Time Best, the Front Page, or the MACs) is completely worthless to me now. I'm not interested in the support of an audience that votes tracks like this into the Weekly Best over far better works - why is it that this was submitted in the same week, yet received nothing while the other track takes 5th? Why is it that Guitar vs. Piano 1.2 - using FL samples, FL Keys, and Slayer, as raw as you could possibly use them - has become a regular in the All-Time Top 30, and nearly has 300,000 listens, instead of the hundreds, or possibly thousands, of better tracks on this site?

What really pushed it over was the September MAC. We have judges, hand-selecting tracks to win a fair amount of money, but this track is worth $150 and a Newgrounds shirt? How did it get first place? How did this get third place while tracks like this or this (which while not flawless, were produced far, far better and more originally) fail to place at all? I seriously doubt the idea of "Madness" could skew results this much. I'm curious to know how the judging worked for this MAC, and who judged... :I

Of course, now and then good tracks do make it, but the fact that these generic or downright horrible tracks get anywhere at all makes the exposure here, as I said before, worthless to me. So why bother competing with them at all? And in any case, I can't support a system, nor an audience, that favors generic music over groundbreaking tracks.

If Newgrounds changes its system to one that will almost always bring out the true best of the week, and the truly deserving contest winners, then I'll consider putting more things up here - but I consider the former of the two impossible and the latter quite difficult to pull off.

I've got no idea where I'm going to put my music, but there's no chance I'm going to be finishing anything anytime soon anyway. Hopefully I'll know by the time I do.

(Last thing: Collabs, the preview set, and the Instrumental #4 and Air Release remixes, if I finish them, will probably be submitted, but that will be it.)

No more submissions.

10-9-08: Long news post soon...

--

10-5-08: Nav made a second mix with a few of my tracks in it this time, check it out also - it's at the same link as the first mix. ;D

I've started a new collab with Nav as well! It's Jungle, I believe, which is quite a long way out of my comfort zone, but I did quite a lot of the starting work already so this may not be so hard for me, especially with his help. :D We're both quite busy these days but maybe you'll be able to expect that in the near future...

--

10-3-08: Nav posted his mix the other day, find it here! Some awesome tracks and transitions in there, even though I still have to finish the thing myself. :P

I seem to have hit a block on all of my WIPs. D: I'm probably going to have to take a full-on break for a while, until school and things clear up - but once they do, I'll have quite a lot of free time on my hands compared to before. ;D This means that, apart from the demo set which I'm going to try and submit this month, all submissions will be pushed back to November or possibly December. :(

Time for me to get some lunch. :O

--

10-1-08: Cleared the news section once again.

First thing, it might be possible for me to submit to this month's MAC! :D Hopefully I can finish Reasoner's remix in time and (with his permission) submit it. I'll have to work quickly, as I'll be insanely busy as the deadline approaches, namely with school. D:

In other news, I'm going to see if I can get a set of tracks I never finished in the same MP3, and submit them as a set of "previews." They're not really previews though, as I won't be finishing them - they're all projects that I can't open anymore now that I've got Nexus2. I've already got three files I want to put in, and I might want to finish the peak of the Instrumental #4 remix early so I can throw that in there as well. :D We'll see where it goes.

There's a small chance of really nice Sennheiser headphones in my future, I've got my fingers crossed. :)

Last thing - Nav's making a Trance mix and I'm not in it! >:(

Really, though, I don't mind, there are quite a few awesome tracks in there. I'll give him another plug once he puts it up somewhere.

Instrumental #4 (Karco's See The Light Remix)
- Progress: 15% Done, 1:51 Finished, Intro
- Length: It'll be a full-length Trance track. No estimates yet.
- Submission Date: I'm estimating late September, but hopefully no later than early October. I've been very short on time lately, so this will take longer than my tracks over the summer did.
- Info: My first piano Trance song and a remix of Reasoner's great track! This could potentially blow you all away even more than the PoE remix did if everything goes to plan. So far, so good!
- Demo: Got one! IM me and I'll send it to you.

Untitled (Original Mix)
- Progress: 15% Done, Intro
- Length:
N/A, I intend for it to be a full-length track though.
- Submission Date: Also N/A, though I hope to have it done sometime in November depending on what kind of school workload I get. There's a chance this won't go to Newgrounds, as I plan on attempting to get this signed once it's finished.
- Info: This was originally an attempt at something a bit more progressive, though it's turning out to be more lively than I thought it would. I hope for it to be my first original track I'll be satisfied with since... well, never. :O And so far, it's coming along great. Check out Love Theme Dusk (Signalrunners Sunrise Mix) for a vague idea of what the song will be like. ;) As for the title, I've got a few neat ideas, but I'm going to wait before committing to anything. :)
- Demo: None yet, but ask on MSN and I'll send a clip.

Air Release (Karco Remix)
- Progress: 0% Done
- Length: N/A
- Submission Date: N/A
- Info: This song is so catchy, I decided I HAD to remix it. So, I will. :D I'm going to go for something really minimal and progressive - there's no one track that will give you an idea of what I'm aiming at, but if I find one, I'll link it here. :D No ideas yet, I'll be tinkering around in FL until I find a really good one to kick off from.

Info

- Release Date: TBA

News

Now that I've got this many tracks, I will NOT be taking any more remixes, I think I've got enough as is. Unless you've got something that really wows me more than any of these other remixes (some of which are really amazing, believe me), or is radically different from the other styles, it'll definitely be a no.

Remixers:
1) Try to get your tracks done before the end of October, which is not only a good amount of time to get everything together, but also a while in advance from the current release date - this gives Nav time for the master, and anyway I prefer to have everything together a while in advance just to be safe, in case I forget anything.

______Ideas______
=================

I made this section so people could see ideas that I've got for future songs, that I haven't started yet - this way they could suggest for me which songs to work on first. Check back here now and then, I add ideas as soon as I come up with them. ;) If you see an idea here that you like, let me know!

- No ideas currently. I'll make an update when I add some!
